New Surgery

Read our monthly updates below:

September 2008

After many months of delays with the planners and alterations to the layout to cope with tree preservation orders etc, we finally got Planning Permission in November 2007.

The next few months involved builders tendering for the contract, with it eventually being awarded to ISG Pearce in Bristol in the spring.

More discussions about design, interior detailing, costs and timeframes occurred with involvement from the PCT District Valuer to ensure our modern purpose built General Practice building would meet all the latest design features and regulations.

Finally our start date was Monday 29th September.

October 2008

The diggers arrived on time and work commenced at a great pace

The land was cleared of vegetation, the old walls demolished to increase visibility and fencing erected around the site.

Site offices were put in place complete with services and toilets!

Both the car park and building foundations were dug and the lift pit constructed.

The concrete floors of the pharmacy and meeting room were laid and tarmac put down to keep the site and surrounding roads clean.

November 2008

The steel framework arrived and was assembled by crane like a huge meccano project. This gave definite outline to the size and shape of the surgery.

Both the meeting room and pharmacy walls were started.

The foul drainage from the site was dug, laid and completed.

The metal deck for the first floor concrete began to be put in place.

December 2008

The first floor concrete was laid.

The lift shaft has been completed and the ground floor steelwork given fire protection.

All the scaffolding has been erected ready for the delivery of the roof.

The rainwater harvesting tanks, pipe work, valves and filters have been installed.

Some of the masonry has been delivered ready to start in the new year.

January 2009

The masonry to the ground floor and 1st floor has commenced.

Some of the external blockwork has been started and the stone cills and heads are being put in place.

The main roof trusses have been completed.

The precast concrete staircases have been delivered and fitted.

February 2009

Unfortunately work has been delayed due to the snow and cold temperatures at the beginning of February.

The masonry has now been completed on the 1st floor of the main surgery, the community room and the pharmacy.

The main roof is almost complete and trusses are in place over the pharmacy and community room.

The fascias and soffits are being fitted and the main roof tiles have been delivered and are starting to be laid.

March 2009

The 1st floor underfloor heating has been installed and the covering screed applied.

The first fix for electrical cabling has been completed on the first floor.

Clandown Road service diversion and section 106 works have commenced.

The ground floor metal roof has been started and rear stairwell construction continues.

The final render has been applied to some of the external walls.
